For 2011-2012, the Susquehanna Township Indians and Bishop McDevitt Crusaders once again join to form a joint CPIHL Tier 3 team. This is the third time in the last four seasons that the two teams have joined and the result has been success on the ice each time. The best season for the joint team was the 2008-2009 season when the team won the unofficial Tier 3 championship in an invitational tournament between the top four Tier 3 teams. The two schools went their separate ways for the 2010-2011 season when the Indians went as a pure team in Tier 2 and the Crusaders joined with Cedar Cliff in Tier 3.
This year great things are expected from this team with several players reuniting from previous joint ventures and several newcomers joining them. Leading the team this year is Susquehanna Twp senior Alec Smith who combines great hockey skill with a hard work ethic. Last year, Smith led the Indians in goals and was second in team total points. Joining him are last year’s teammates: senior Seth Reed; juniors Devon Reed and Roger Dixon; sophomores George Smith and Justin Smith all of Susquehanna Twp. Rounding out the offense are Crusaders forwards senior Caleb Avery; juniors David Nanna and Andrew O’Gorman; and sophomore Robert Zweigart.
A great team is not complete without a great defense. This year’s blue line corps has speed and size going for it. Junior Logan Shaulis (Crusaders) is a solid leader on defense. Sophomores Bobby Neely and Elijah Brown (Susquehanna Twp) will be formidable on defense as well.
The team also welcomes to varsity newcomers junior Doug Meneely of Susquehanna Twp and sophomore Bradley Focht of the Crusaders. Doug and Brad should fit in well with the experienced players and provide additional talent to the offense.
Backstopping the team is junior goaltender Justin Weaver of Susquehanna Twp. Justin was the varsity goalie last season and helped guide the Indians to a playoff berth.
Coaches Remi Bollana, Howard Scholey, Tom Smith and Josh Weaver look forward to a successful and fun season.
